Crete Sea Kayak and Hiking tour, is an amazing outdoor activities holiday, on an island full of colors and contrasts, always different, always changing, with every day bringing new experiences and memorable impressions! Greece’s largest island, known for its varied terrain, which ranges from the fine sandy beaches of Elafonisi to the impressive White Mountains. Mt. Ida, the tallest of the range, is home to the Ideon Cave, which was the birthplace of Zeus, according to Greek mythology.
Our Crete Sea Kayak and Hiking tour offers you action and adventure along paddling and hiking, through stunning natural and historical landscapes. Get the chance to relax by the sea-side, whose color ranges from turquoise to ‘wine-dark’ as described by Homer, explore the mosaic of music and dance with us, embracing the Cretan way of living! A way of life that has been a part of Cretan tradition since time out of mind accompanied by delicious dishes that make up the phenomenal, traditional olive oil-based Cretan Diet, hailed by scientists as a possible key to longevity.
Arrival at Heraklion or Chania airport. Transfer to your accommodation and briefing with your guide. (D)
Morning stroll in the picturesque city of Chania, lunch in the old harbor and later in the afternoon we will head south to Paleochora. After checking in at our accommodation, we will have our first (wet!) hands-on experience with the sea kayaks through a lesson on basic safety, paddling techniques and sea orientation. Afterwards, we are free to explore the local beaches and dive in the crystal clear waters of the Libyan Sea! This is our first sea kayaking day in Greece and the magical island of Crete! (B,L,D)
After our delicious Greek breakfast, we leave Paleochora and paddle with our kayaks to Sougia. On the way there we will spend some time looking at the remains of the ancient site of Lissos. (B,L,D)
We leave Sougia and the sea to hike up the Agia Irini Gorge. The path is good and the scenery beautiful, quite different from that of the previous days. We arrive at the top of the gorge (600 m) for a delicious Greek lunch. Afterwards, the minibus brings us to Omalos in the White Mountains, where we will spend the night. (4 hours’ hiking) (B,L,D)
After our good nights rest and our delicious breakfast, we begin our hike for today. The first part of the walk at Xyloskalo is the steepest, but the path is very well constructed; soon (after 1 hour) we reach the bottom of the gorge and follow the riverbed. We’ll discover a “secret” place there, where we will stop to eat our packed lunch, by the river. After 6 hours of walking, we reach the village of Agia Roumeli for our overnight. There is plenty of time for swimming or just resting on the beach. (5-6 hours) (B,L,D)
Today we have a great sea kayaking day ahead of us, a paddling adventure that will bring us to Loutro, where we will also rest for the night. (B,L,D)
Mighty breakfast and off we go by kayak from Loutro to Sfakia, stopping on the way to swim at the Sweet Water beach. From Sfakia, an old village situated against the backdrop of the tall peaks of the White Mountains, the minibus brings us back to Heraklion or Chania. (B,L,D)
